Cover art for "A Rising Thunder Part 1" by David Weber, published by Baen Books. It is always a pleasure, and an honor, to be chosen to do one of David Weber's books. As the Honor Harrington series has gone on, it has become richer, and more complex with each book in the series. As a cat lover, I particularly enjoy painting the Sphinx cats that are integral to the series. On a technical note, this cover utilizes an unusual perspective technique. Bascially, this is a cheated 3-point perspective picture. In a properly plotted picture, the lower vanishing point would not continue to be used above the horizon, but rather curve around and flatten as your view approached the eye level. I cheated it here, continuing to use the lower vanishing point to add drama to the city. I had a great perspective teacher in art school, Ted Youngkin, and I love to use these special techniques to add drama to a picture. |
